Incised Meanders

If a mature stream with meanders is rejuvenated and regains erosive power it will start to cut downwards and cause vertical erosion. This may occur if the base level is lowered or is the land the river is on is uplifted. This vertical erosion cuts into the land, creating canyons.

The Grand Canyon is a dramatic example of an incised meander
