Soil Liquefaction

During an earthquake the land, made of soil, clay or sand, can start to behave like a liquid due to the applied stress. Liquefaction can cause damage to buildings
when they experience a loss of support. The irregular settlement of the ground can cause cracks in foundations and allow water to enter buildings, causing more damage, and break underground utility lines.
