Instruments of the wind, and their lord, Gwaihir.

During the adventure of the ring, the hobbits eventually were trapped on mount doom after it had erupted due to the addition of the ONE RING to it's hot innards. At this time, Gwaihir, The Winlord saved them with a bunch of his fellow eagles. They obviously had to use devices such as a Anemometer to measure how fast the wind was going before they took flight, for without it, they would have been lost in the currents of Mount Doom's eruption.
